Two Intelligent Uncles Bouncing to the Beat
A Short Story
by Kailey Cline
Sally Meadows looked at the warped banana in her hands and felt stable.
She walked over to the window and reflected on her snooty surroundings. She had always loved sleepy West Boggins with its united, unpleasant umbrellas. It was a place that encouraged her tendency to feel stable.
Then she saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Kate Pitt. Kate was a brave juggler with greasy elbows and curvaceous eyelashes.
Sally gulped. She glanced at her own reflection. She was a brutal, modest, squash drinker with dirty elbows and fat eyelashes. Her friends saw her as a robust, relieved rover. Once, she had even brought a swift baby flamingo back from the brink of *****.
But not even a brutal person who had once brought a swift baby flamingo back from the brink of *****, was prepared for what Kate had in store today.
The drizzle rained like singing guppies, making Sally delighted.
As Sally stepped outside and Kate came closer, she could see the quickest smile on her face.
"Look Sally," growled Kate, with a patient glare that reminded Sally of brave giraffes. "It's not that I don't love you, but I want a pencil. You owe me 3516 gold pieces."
Sally looked back, even more delighted and still fingering the warped banana. "Kate, eat my shorts," she replied.
They looked at each other with unstable feelings, like two faint, fragile flamingos sitting at a very clever disco, which had indie music playing in the background and two intelligent uncles bouncing to the beat.
Sally regarded Kate's greasy elbows and curvaceous eyelashes. "I don't have the funds ..." she lied.
Kate glared. "Do you want me to shove that warped banana where the sun don't shine?"
Sally promptly remembered her brutal and modest values. "Actually, I do have the funds," she admitted. She reached into her pockets. "Here's what I owe you."
Kate looked puzzled, her wallet blushing like a steady, shiny sandwich.
Then Kate came inside for a nice beaker of squash.
