Dear FutureMe,
It’s 12:30 in the morning and I’m laying in bed scrolling mindlessly through Facebook—Kaila’s asleep behind me—when I start feeling baby squiggles on my butt which is pressed up against Kaila’s belly. She (the baby) has hiccups now, strong, rhythmic thumps. I can’t believe Kaila’s grown an entire person in there and that she will soon be on the outside, in our arms, and that she’s already experiencing regular human bodily functions. I’m still not sure it’s entirely sunk-in for me, I’m definitely in denial. Like, we’re going to leave home sometime in the next two weeks and come home with a baby in the backseat. WTF. No more hiccups now, instead she seems to be pressing her leg against me, rolling it back and forth. I wonder if she recognizes this mass outside her warm bubble world as me.
